Description
Thrangu Rinpoche teaches The Four Foundations of Mindfulness from two perspectives. For each mindfulness practice he first discusses the meaning and approach based on Buddha's teachings in the Sutras and associated commentaries. He then teaches the approach taken in terms of the upadeshas or practical instruction's which were developed for a certain time and culture. For example, the Sutra approach to mindfulness of body focuses on letting go of attachment or fixation on the body, whereas the practical approach focuses on body as a precious opportunity beause simply being human and having a body includes mind which can be used for the benefit of self and others. Rinpoche goes on to clearly present the sutra and practical instructions approach for each of the four mindfulness practices. Rinpoche then provides opportunity for questions at the end. Lama Yeshe Gyamtso translated this talk.
